There are many places that you can go when you’re in Taiwan but not all those places are friendly to the needs of your family. We went to Taiwan last May 2018 and here are some of the places that I think your family would enjoy.

1. Taipei Zoo

If you are traveling with your family this is one of the best places to visit. However, it's going to entail a LOT of walking. Going to some areas, or a lot of areas, are a bit steep so prepare yourself especially people with special needs. Once you enter the Zoo, secure a map and plan out the best itinerary so you will not miss a place. The Zoo itself recommends this itinerary:

1st: Encountering Formosan Animals Tour

2nd: Discovering Tropical Rainforest Tour

3rd: Uncovering Antarctic Penguins

For other zoo information, click this link. Also, if you're already in the Zoo you may want to visit the Maokong Gondola. It was close when we were there so we weren't able to go inside. We were suppose to ride the cable car but no. For more information about the gondola, click this link.

Entrance Fee: NT$ 60

Zoo Hours: 9:00AM to 5:00PM

2. Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall

It is one of the most prominent historical landmark in Taiwan that's dedicated to Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek, the former President of the Republic of China. If you love history and museums this is the place for you. If you love structure and architecture, like me, this is also for you. While you're here, you may also visit the National Concert Hall and the National Theater. Also, don't miss the changing of guards in the memorial hall. For more information, click this link.

Entrance Fee: None

Park Hours: 9:00AM to 6:00PM

3. National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall

The National National Memorial Hall for Dr. Sun Yat-Sen is another place you need to visit if you want to appreciate the history of Taiwan during the time of Dr. Sun Yat-sen. It is also one of the place with the best view of Taipei 101.

Entrance Fee: None

Park Hours: 9:00AM to 6:00PM

4. Yehliu Geopark

This place is a bit far but it's worth it. It's one of a kind actually. The rock formations in this park is something! Although it gets really hot during summer so you better bring something to protect you from the sun, also bring water because the walk might tire you. For more details, click this link.

Entrance Fee: NTD80

Park Hours: 8:00AM to 5:00PM

5. Modern Toilet Restaurant

This is a fun place to be with family. The place is just both weird and pleasing at the same time. It is kind of pricey but there are food that can be enough for everyone. For more information about their food, you may click this link.

Entrance Fee: None

Restaurant Hours: 11:00AM to 9:00PM

6. Taipei 101 Observatory

You will try this for experience purposes and for bragging rights. JK. If you are willing to spend more for your family, better buy this in advance via klook. Click this link. Personally, even though I have not tried entering and seeing the entire city during the day, I think the city view from the observatory is better during the night. What's also awesome is the elevator. Since this was once the tallest tower in the entire world, the elevator can travel up to 60km/hr and can get you to the 89th floor in 37 seconds.

Entrance Fee (At the counter): NTD600 (Php 1,000+)

Entrance Fee (via Klook): Php 800+

Tower Hours: 9:00AM to 10:00PM

Travelling with family can be really tough and you need extra time for research and preparation in order to give them a smooth and pleasurable experience. In case you need one, here are some tips when travelling with family:

Travel Tips for Family Trips

1. Itinerary should include a place where you can rest and eat after every spot. I travelled with my two grandmothers and although grandma1 can really put up with us but grandma2 cannot. Since they have special needs, I planned the itinerary very carefully to fit those needs.

2. Buy a cheap but decent tripod. This is a family event, everyone should always be in every picture. Although you can always do a selfie but it's never the same with a tripod. Our pictures can tell you that.

3. Bring the necessary things. Have them all wear rubber shoes or the most comfortable shoes that they have. Bring water containers, umbrellas or sunglasses in case you might need it.

4. Make sure they bring their meds. Getting sick in another country is such a pain in the neck. It's not fun trust me. It's hard to find a place to buy the meds, hard to look for the exact meds and hard to talk to people about those meds. If you're on medication, the more you need to prepare for your trip.

5. Prepare printed copies of necessary information in case somebody in the group gets lost. This includes contact information of the Philippine Embassy, Police, Fire Department and Tourist Information Office. You can also do a buddy-buddy system to check on everyone from time to time.

These are just some of the tips I have so far. If you have one, please leave a message in the comment section below. :)
